Recently, Indian Prime Minister Modi has expressed important views on the situation between Russia and Ukraine, which has attracted widespread attention from the international community. According to The Times of India, on March 16th local time, podcast host Lex Friedman released a video of his conversation with Modi. In the video, Modi clearly pointed out that the key to resolving the conflict between Russia-Ukraine conflict lies in the direct negotiation between Ukraine and Russia, rather than relying only on the negotiation between Ukraine and its allies.
Modi emphasized that "only when both Russia and Ukraine sit at the negotiating table can the problem be resolved. Even if Ukraine engages in countless discussions with its allies without involving Russia, it will be difficult to achieve substantive results. Discussions involving both sides are the necessary way to resolve the conflict." He further stated that the current situation has actually created an opportunity for Russia and Ukraine to engage in productive dialogue. Despite the difficulties in seeking peace in the early stages, the current situation is expected to facilitate meaningful negotiations and promote the peace process. At the same time, Modi mentioned that the world is facing crises in food, fuel, and fertilizers, and the international community should work together to pursue peace and alleviate these crises.
Previously, on March 11th, Ukrainian and US delegations held talks on the Ukrainian issue in Saudi Arabia. After the talks, both sides issued a joint statement stating that Ukraine is willing to accept the US proposal for a 30 day temporary ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. However, Russian officials have responded coldly to this, believing that Russia is unlikely to accept this temporary ceasefire proposal. This attitude has made the trend of the Russia-Ukraine conflict more complicated and confusing, and the future situation still needs continuous attention. The international community expects both Russia and Ukraine to actively respond to Modi's call and open up a path for peaceful resolution of the conflict through direct dialogue.
