Science and Technology Daily News: Sleep quality is related to people's physical and mental health, and effective sleep monitoring is crucial. Recently, a research team from the University of Cambridge in the UK has brought an exciting breakthrough - successfully developing an innovative nightgown that combines comfort and intelligence. This nightgown can not only be easily washed in the washing machine, but also accurately monitor up to 6 sleep conditions at home, including the worrying issue of breathing pauses. The relevant research results have been published in the latest issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in the United States.
The monitoring performance of this smart nightgown is outstanding, with an accuracy rate of up to 98.6%. It can accurately identify different sleep conditions and cleverly filter out normal sleep turning movements without misjudging. The R&D team has greatly enhanced the durability of pajamas through a special sizing treatment process. Even after multiple washes, it will not affect its intelligent monitoring function, providing users with great convenience.
In terms of technological innovation, researchers have designed highly sensitive sensors based on graphene, which can quickly and accurately analyze users' breathing conditions during sleep as long as they come into light contact with the skin, providing highly accurate monitoring data. At the same time, the supporting SleepNet machine learning model is also indispensable. It can quickly and accurately identify six sleep conditions based on signals captured by sensors, including nasal breathing, oral breathing, snoring, grinding teeth, central sleep apnea, and obstructive sleep apnea. It is worth mentioning that SleepNet belongs to the "lightweight version" model, which greatly reduces computational complexity and can run independently on portable devices without the need to connect to computers or servers, truly achieving monitoring anytime and anywhere.
At present, the gold standard technology for sleep monitoring - polysomnography, although accurate, is expensive and complex to operate, and is not suitable for long-term use in households. However, some simple household devices either have a single function and can only monitor a certain sleep condition, or are bulky and extremely inconvenient to use. Compared with it, this new type of smart pajamas stands out among many sleep monitoring products due to its convenient use and ultra-high monitoring accuracy. Its emergence is expected to open up new development directions for the field of sleep health monitoring, providing practical solutions for those who have long been troubled by sleep problems, making sleep monitoring easier and more efficient.
